Preparing for the Road

In less than two short months, we two women of a certain age will be heading out on a joint ‘bucket list’ adventure to Alaska! We plan on embracing the entire experience – no shortcuts! We will be driving cross country twice, and passing through at least 3 Canadian provinces. This is the first of a series of stories about this trip (and others).

Our transport is a 31 foot Class ‘C’ RV, flat towing a Chevy Equinox behind. Inside will be two grandmas, a dog and a cat. Pictures will follow, as soon as I figure out where I put them. (I did mention this was a Grandma’s blog, right?)

Preparation for this trip began 3 years ago, when an idle conversation led to the discovery that both of us wanted to visit Alaska, and that further, we both wanted to do it in an RV. This idle conversation was followed a month or so later by the purchase of said RV. Because neither had any real experience in this area, a model with a 2 year warrantee was a must!  This was made especially clear when I jumped a curb turning a corner on the test drive…

Fortunately YouTube has many very useful videos on how to drive various types of RVs. I can highly recommend looking at them. I haven’t had an ‘incident’ since.

This early purchase, well before either of us were actually retired and available for such a huge trip, allowed us 3 years to learn all about our new home away from home and to customize some aspects. More about that later!

That’s it for now, apparently I have to go learn about storing photos on-line!

Look – it’s a picture!
